National Homebuyers: 'Homeowners stung by massive severe weather repair bills'
Severe UK weather could be leaving many people in financial difficulties due to the cost of repairs.
[UKPRwire, Tue Feb 19 2008] That is according to Halifax Home Insurance, which has revealed that 1.5 million homes have suffered roof damage in the last 12 months.
This has led to damage totalling £4.5 billion, with the average household having to spend £2,800 on repairing weather damage in 2007.
Clearly this figure is likely to lead to financial difficulties for many, particularly when you consider that it represents 12 per cent of the average British salary.
"The damage caused by high winds runs into billions of pounds each year. Immediate action is vital if householders are to avoid seeing the problem exacerbated by water coming in through missing or broken tiles," said Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance.
"It's advisable for homeowners to conduct a thorough inspection from ground level following high winds and call in a professional if they are concerned there may be damage," he added.
Fast property sale expert Julian King adds, "People seeking a fast property sale are encouraged to act quickly in a falling market.
"Selling a property on the open market is taking an average of ten weeks, which does not solve many people's property sale problems".
