Tory plans attacked, says National Homebuyers

There may be an increase in the number of people struggling to avoid repossession if controversial new Conservative plans are introduced.

[UKPRwire, Thu Jan 10 2008] Tory leader David Cameron has announced that his party would look into introducing a 'three strikes and you're out' approach to benefits.

During a welfare reform speech, Mr Cameron said that the new approach would tackle the problem of rogue claimants by denying them benefits if they refused three 'suitable' jobs.

However, Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) has spoken out against the proposals, which could lead to people getting into financial difficulties and fighting to avoid repossession.

"The Conservatives should not threaten family security with an attack on welfare rights while economic storm clouds gather on the horizon. Their social security reform idea seems to be 'privatise the social and scrap the security'," said Kate Green, CPAG's chief executive.

"Any family could find themselves suddenly needing their welfare rights through job loss, bereavement, illness or disability," she added.

Fast property sale expert Julian King of National Homebuyers adds, "People facing repossession should consider Sell and Rent Back option.

"Sell and Rent Back is a mortgage rescue scheme where the homeowner can sell their house within a few days, while remaining living in their home as a tenant.

"With this very attractive service available to any UK homeowner, we see no reason why the number of repossessions should climb to 45,000 this year as analysts predict".

National Homebuyers is the UK's leading mortgage rescue scheme provider.

The Tories currently lead Labour in most polls, with the Times revealing this week that Mr Cameron leads Mr Brown by 44 per cent to 40 per cent.
