An image capturing one of the greatest moments in Scottish football history is among the most sought after gifts this Christmas

A signed print of James McFadden scoring against France in the Euro 2008 qualifiers is changing hands for up to £3,000 as fans join the growing craze for football memorabilia.

Extra Time Memorabilia produced just 250 limited edition prints of the moment against France during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign when McFadden struck home the goal in the 64th minute and raised the hopes of the nation.

Signed by the footballer and complete with a certificate of authentication the prints, entitled ‘Magnifique’, sell for £99.99 on the company’s website but are now fetching up to 30 times their original value from fans eager to acquire a piece of soccer history.

Two copies of the print recently sold for £3,000 at a Tartan Army dinner and a Radio Clyde charity auction while a third fetched £1,600 at another benefit in Inverness.

”It’s been amazing,” said Alex Hurry of Extra Time Memorabilia which produced the prints along side a range of other personalised mementoes.

”The McFadden print has really captured the imagination of people. We have
been selling it for £99.99 but then some started appearing for £200 or more in shops while a couple were auctioned at charity events and by a radio station for thousands of pounds.

”Football memorabilia is becoming big business but demand for the McFadden print has been phenomenal. Even though we failed to qualify for the championship that goal was a defining moment in Scottish football history”.

The goal, which even former Scotland player Archie Gemmill said eclipsed his own World Cup achievement of 1978 against Holland, was captured in a single camera shot.

Extra Time Memorabilia specialises in producing signed limited edition prints of some of Scottish football’s most memorable moments. The Edinburgh-based company negotiated exclusive rights with McFadden for his signature on the images used in the prints which appear to have struck a chord with football fans across the globe.

Ex-pat Scots as far a field as the Czech Republic, The USA and Australia have been flocking to the website at a rate of thousands a month looking for a copy of the McFadden print and other personalised pieces of soccer history.
