A former manager of Tottenham Hostpur and Sheffield Wednesday will be the guest speaker tonight (25 May) at the end of season celebration for a new local football club, SA Stainash. The club have just finished their first season in the East Berkshire league and is a church based team with its roots in the Salvation Army.
[UKPRwire, Sat May 26 2007] Ex Spurs boss Peter Shreeves will speak at the event at The Thames Club this evening at the invitation of Stainash's joint coach and former professional footballer Wes Maughan. Wes, who played for Southampton and Reading, said "Its been a great first year for the team and having Peter along this evening will really top it off brilliantly as we celebrate the season tonight with family and friends and look forward to a few weeks rest over the summer!"
SA Stainash was started up last year by members of the Staines corps of the Salvation Army, a christian church based in Woodthorpe Rd, Ashford and the team's kit of red, yellow and blue reflect the colours of the famous Salvation Army flag.
Club captain and one of the league's leading goal scores, Anthony Kerslake commented "We were looking at ways the church could get more involved in the local community and football seemed the obvious route. The team is made up of a mix of Salvation Army regulars and friends, and everyone is welcome - when you see the brass band playing in Staines High Street on a Sunday morning there's bound to be some bumps and bruises under those uniforms from the previous afternoon's match!"
