Fotango releases open source .NET client libraries for Zimki
Client and Server-side JavaScript Application Development Platform gets the desktop treatment.
[UKPRwire, Wed Nov 01 2006] Fotango UK, a leading creator of software solutions for professional developers, has today announced the release of an open source .NET client library for Zimki, their end to end JavaScript web application development platform.
Zimki is a pay as you go, end to end JavaScript web application development platform that takes away all the repetitive tasks encountered when creating web applications. Things like setting up a server, security and enabling backups are all done automatically by Zimki, enabling developers to get on with doing what they enjoy: developing applications.
One of the strengths of Zimki has always been the simple way it allows developers to expose their code as web services. To make this even easier for .NET developers, Fotango has provided client libraries for the .NET framework. Developers can automatically persist JavaScript objects, without writing any SQL, it works with XML seamlessly and performs well on the client and the server.
According to Fotango’s Chief Scientist, Greg McCarroll, the launch of the .NET client libraries hails greater choice for the developer community and allows web application developers to easily offer Zimki integration for desktop applications. “For instance, you can now implement your calendaring application in Zimki, expose some of the code as a service and quickly write a small reminder program that can be constantly running on the desktop”.
McCarroll also added, “Of course there is no need to stop there, Zimki will soon enable developers to easily integrate with mobile communication devices and PDAs that support the .NET framework”.
As part of Fotango’s continuing commitment to open source and the open source community, the .NET client libraries are released under the LGPL open source license. These client libraries are also designed to be compatible with both the Microsoft implementation of .NET and the open source Mono implementation of the .NET Framework, thus allowing access to the greatest number of developers.
