HUNTSMAN HAS COATINGS COVERED AT ECS 2007

European Coatings Show (ECS) 2007, Nürnberg Messe, Nürnberg, Germany 8-10 May 2007 – Huntsman Stand 4-419 - Hall 4

[UKPRwire, Fri Mar 23 2007] Huntsman is returning to the European Coatings Show (ECS), Nürnberg, Germany with its largest stand and the most comprehensive range of chemistries and product solutions it has ever displayed for coating, paint, ink and adhesive formulators.

From 8-10 May 2007, technical and commercial experts from across four different divisions of the Huntsman business will be on hand at Nürnberg Messe (in Hall 4 at Stand 4-419) to discuss the latest advances in polyurethane, epoxy, methacrylate, titanium dioxide, surfactant, coalescing agents, pigment dispersion and other additives for coatings formulation. Each attending Huntsman division will promote new products and chemistries that highlight the breadth of the organisation’s expertise and the steps it is taking to proactively address issues affecting European formulators, developers and product specialists.

In order to meet current and future environmental regulations in terms of VOC (volatile organic compound) for the coatings industry, Huntsman Advanced Materials has been investing heavily in compliant technologies that can be employed in a variety of end user markets. At ECS, the team will offer solutions such as waterborne, high solids, solvent free and powder technologies, consisting of resins, hardeners, accelerators, matting agents and crosslinkers – all of which are suited for heavy duty, ACE, transportation, marine and architecture markets. A paper on waterborne primer systems will be given at the product presentation sessions. And for construction, a new range of ARAFLOOR® binder systems will be introduced for flooring formulators which are designed to help reduce time and satisfy the rigorous requirements of today's flooring industry.

Huntsman Performance Products – a leading producer of amines, cyclic carbonates, surfactants and surfactant intermediates for industrial applications - will promote a range of new technologies at Nürnberg. Fresh research and development has enabled the creation of chemistries that offer both protective and architectural coating formulators a range of manufacturing and performance benefits. In the protective coatings arena, these include an innovative portfolio of JEFFLINK® chain extenders for polyurethane and polyurea elastomers plus a series of new secondary aliphatic JEFFAMINE® SD amines for the formulator’s toolbox.

In the area of architectural coatings, developments include: a new amine neutraliser which can be used to adjust and control the pH of latexes as well as assisting with dispersion and stabilisation; EMPIMIN® novel technologies for APE replacement; plus a new coalescing agent, classified as non-VOC, which is suitable for use with a wide variety of latexes including high-pH acrylics. A technical paper will be presented at the Ink Makers Forum outlining the benefits of a new range of speciality polymeric JEFFSPERSE® dispersants, which are designed for use in acqueous printing inks, industrial coatings and pigment concentrates. (Wednesday 9th May at 4pm).

Representatives from Huntsman Pigments will promote innovations within the company’s TIOXIDE® portfolio – a world leading brand of titanium dioxide pigments that provides brilliant whiteness, opacity and protection to an enormous range of coatings applications. Products under the spotlight will include: TIOXIDE® TR81 pigment which delivers brilliant whiteness and super durability to industrial coatings; TIOXIDE® TR85 pigment which is designed specifically for low VOC decorative paints, offering rapid wetting and dispersion plus a very high gloss finish; and TIOXIDE® R-XL pigment which provides outstanding opacity, tinting strength and colour for matt emulsion paints.

Further representing Huntsman Pigments, Scott Wright, Customer Solutions Manager, will address ECS congress delegates about the future of titanium dioxide pigments. His presentation will discuss whether modern pigments are approaching the theoretical limits of optical performance and demonstrate how improving in-process performance can provide significant manufacturing, cost and conversion benefits for pigment users worldwide. (Wednesday 9th May at 12pm).

The team from Huntsman Polyurethanes will also unveil new concepts for two-pack VOC-free coatings. The products are based on Huntsman’s low viscous polyisocyanates and caster oil polyols from Alberdingk Boley – a producer of water-based systems for coatings and finishings on all substrates. The products are the result of a collaboration between the two companies that addresses the needs of industrial flooring customers throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Additionally, Ian Rimmer, Commercial Manager Coatings EAME for Huntsman Polyurethanes, has been invited to speak on ‘The Chemistry of Polyurethanes Coatings’, at a pre-congress tutorial on Monday 7th May at 08.30 hrs in the Congress Centre of the Nürnberg fairground. Ian’s tutorial will review relevant polyisocyanates and polyols and discuss how different combinations are suitable for an array of coating applications.
