Notes to Editors

1 The manufacturing of the 2500kW Subsea Motor is the largest of its kind ever built. Three of these special motors were ordered by Aker Kvaerner Subsea in June 2006 for deployment on the Statoil Tyrihans project. The project is to supply subsea motors to drive their seawater injection pumps on the Tyrihans project in the Norwegian Sea.

The Aker Kvaerner injection pumps combined with the Hayward Tyler subsea motors will inject raw seawater for pressure support and stabilisation of the oil zone. The pumps will operate at depths of 285 metres with a 40km step out from the Kirsten platform.

The qualified Hayward Tyler design for the 2500 kW variable speed, super synchronous motor will operate at speeds ranging from 2500 to 4000 rpm. The subsea motors will likewise feature increased insulation of 11 kV owing to the electrical challenges of the environment in which they are to operate.
