On Safer Internet Day NetIDme has launched a short video containing advice for parents on the dangers their children can face online.
[UKPRwire, Fri Feb 15 2008] NetIDme has launched a short video containing guidance for parents on the dangers their children can face online: http://www.chatshield.com.safetyvideo.html.
Talking about the aim of the video, Alex Hewitt, founder of NetIDme, commented:
“It’s important for parents to learn as much as they can about how their children use the internet, the places they go, the people they are in touch with. In that sense it is no different from knowing what they get up to, and who they are with, in the real world. By producing this video, our aim is to help raise parental awareness of the issues”.
Hewitt established NetIDme.com after he was concerned over his daughter using instant messaging (IM). He was astonished to find that of the 150 people on his daughter's online friend list, she could identify fewer than 50.
Hewitt wanted to provide a service that would help young people protect themselves online, while still having the freedom to use the Internet.
NetIDme developed ChatShield, a free parental control tool for Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger). ChatShield automatically checks all instant messaging (IM) contacts against the NetIDme identity verification service, and stops any unidentifiable messages from getting through. Parents can download ChatShield for free from the website – www.chatshield.com
