[UKPRwire, Sat Jul 07 2007] Identity and Access Management specialists, Oxford Computer Group (OCG) has demonstrated the potential benefits and operational value of an Identity and Access Management solution to the John Lewis Partnership. Having completed a Proof of Concept for the UK’s leading retailer, OCG has been commissioned to implement a complete identity management solution based on Microsoft® Identity Lifecycle Manager (ILM) 2007 for John Lewis.

OCG implements identity and access management solutions that are driven by organisational needs. Experience has shown that conducting a Proof of Concept (POC) prior to initial engagement is a very effective means of demonstrating the technology and proving the project’s concept and approach. Depending on the size and scale of the environment, a POC can take from a matter of days to a couple of weeks. It is carried out using copies of the client’s own systems and data.

The POC conducted for John Lewis enabled the retailer to test its requirements and the potential identity management solution in a real world environment. As well as seeing the technology in action, it provided an audit of the organisation’s data and tested whether the proposed solution was achievable before it committed to any significant investment.

Dave Barker, Technical Architect at the John Lewis Partnerhsip says: “We were interested in using MIIS and Microsoft recommended Oxford Computer Group to implement the POC. They proved to us that the technology would work and that the solution would add the value and operational efficiency we required. It only took six days to complete and in that time OCG far exceeded our expectations on what was achievable.”

A Proof of Concept can also help to identify any requirements that need to be fulfilled before the identity management solution is fully deployed. Dave Barker adds, “The POC highlighted an issue with the quality of our data. It has given us an opportunity to work on this, which will make implementation easier in the long run. It was also an effective means of eliciting and sharing information from affected parties across the organisation.”

Neil Coughlan, Sales and Marketing Director, OCG says, “A Proof of Concept enables us to quickly demonstrate the tangible benefits of an identity and access management solution. It gives our clients the experience of working with us and a view of the results. It also provides information that can pay dividends later when the project is deployed.”
