ShP Limited, one of Europe’s leading electronic recycling companies has announced this week it has partnered with DSG international plc (‘DSGi’) to offer a dedicated in-store laptop trade in service to customers visiting DSGi’s PC World, Currys and Currys Digital stores.
[UKPRwire, Wed Oct 21 2009] ShP Limited, one of Europe’s leading electronic recycling companies has announced this week it has partnered with DSG international plc (‘DSGi’) to offer a dedicated in-store laptop trade in service to customers visiting DSGi’s PC World, Currys and Currys Digital stores.
The service, trialled successfully in Scotland and four regional stores will go national at midnight on October 22nd to coincide with the launch of Windows 7.
All DSG stores in the UK already offer free recycling of electrical goods, but customers will now be able to visit any store to trade in their old laptop over the counter and have its value deducted from the price of a new laptop or PC. Valuation depends on the make, age and condition of the laptop with a maximum payout of £100.
Commenting on the partnership, ShP Limited Sales and Marketing Director Simon Walsh said: “ShP is delighted to partner DSGi on this initiative. Not only is it a great proposition for customers, but it’s a fantastic way to help people dispose of their unwanted IT assets responsibly in-store and walk away with a new device at a reduced price.”
Under the agreement, ShP Limited is responsible for processing, data wiping all devices using blancco software and reintroducing the products back into the global market to satisfy global demand.
Stewart Potts, Head of Recycling and Recoveries at DSGi said “Working with ShP, our aim is to offer a hassle free trade-in service that helps reduce electrical waste and passes on the very best deal to our customers.”
As part of the agreement, ShP Limited will also work alongside DSGi to collect, recycle and reuse ink cartridges through drop off collection boxes in store.

About ShP Limited
ShP Limited is one of Europe largest electronics recyclers employing over 60 staff at two sites. Since the company launched in 2002 it has been at the forefront of mobile phone recycling and has since moved in to life-cycle management of other e-waste items including laptops. ShP was also the first to launch an online “cash for old mobiles” service in the UK with its mopay.co.uk consumer brand.
All handsets received by ShP Limited are checked against the stolen and lost database – checkMEND. All laptop devices and PC’s are fully data wiped using Blancco.
SHP works with charities, network operators and businesses to recycle old mobile phones and other handheld technology devices which they refurbish and resell. Partners include T-Mobile, Orange, BlackBerry and M&S. All phones are reused or refurbished in the correct environmental manner in line with the EU WEEE Directive. The majority of handsets can be reused and are sent to developing nations where affordability on new handsets is minimal.
