Shell Gas (LPG) has equipped its fleet tankers with wireless data and vehicle satellite tracking technology from leading West Midlands telemetry specialist BOX telematics.
[UKPRwire, Sat May 20 2006] Thanks to BOX telematics tracking spotonBOX™ solution, Shell can now pin point the location of any of their UK LPG fleet at the click of a button. Vehicle parameters are monitored such as location and speed, as well as other matters relating to vehicle immobilisation.
This solution has been adapted in the case of theft and to alert Shell Gas (LPG) HQ of potential hazards, accidents and driver issues. Information can also be sent to managers out of hours via SMS text messages.
The system comprises of a GSM based telemetry module which is fitted to the tanker. This communicates every minute back to a server over the mobile phone network, giving Shell the opportunity to track data over the web. Geo Fences are used so alarms are raised should a vehicle leave the compound out of normal hours or if it leaves its normal working area.
Using remote monitoring Shell have the ability to use data collected from its LPG vehicles to track tanker location history, enabling the distribution team to learn more about the business and ensure high levels of customer service are maintained at all times.
Richard Buggins, Operations Manager at Shell Gas (LPG), said: “BOX telematics have supplied us with an excellent product that clearly demonstrates its security, productivity and customer benefits with real-time turnkey solutions.”
