Speaking on the day that Norwich Union announced a 4,000 job loss programme and the ‘off shoring’ of some jobs to India, Daniel Corby, founder and CEO of 118 trades said “I feel that the UK is a super place to recruit and run call centres from, and 118 trades is keeping an eye on the moves and intentions of Insurance companies. When they leave an area, with the loss of thousands of jobs, they create an opening for us, and the massive talent in the area would be welcome with us. 118 trades does operate Indian call centres, but not at the expense of relocating jobs from the UK. We see India as a useful extra to the UK operation, not an alternative and infact; we have used the growth of our operation in India to create more jobs in the UK. We have offices in Chelmsford, Harlow and Calcutta and are opening a new state of the art 400 seat call centre in Essex next month. This will create around 300 new UK jobs. We are watching closely where Insurance companies leave the UK, and may well short list those towns and areas as possible centres for our future growth”
