EFFECTIVE MOBILE WORKING: AVOIDING THE CHRISTMAS BUSINESS LULL
Research just out by Yes Telecom shows that SMEs are losing up to one day per week in working time over the Christmas period by not having effective access to emails on the move.
[UKPRwire, Mon Dec 08 2008] We all look forward to Christmas, but for those running a business it can be a frustrating time of year. In fact, research by Yes Telecom shows that, over the festive period:
· SMEs lose up to one day a week in man hours by not having efficient access to emails on the move
· For company directors, less than 20 per cent of their time is actually spent productively working
· 20 per cent of business time (one day per week) is spent dealing with backlogged emails
Given these statistics, the impact of the lull at Christmas time is one which must be avoided if at all possible. Yes Telecom’s research shows that over 86 per cent of SMEs would benefit from having access to emails over the Christmas break and outside normal working hours. Projected sales figures reflect this, with over 3m new mobile data connections expected to be made by 2011*.
Yes Telecom’s own solution plans to take the mobile office one step further. By helping IT resellers, with their technical expertise, (and not just mobile phone dealers) to access mobile data packages, mobile devices can be integrated with office-based IT equipment. The potential benefit for SMEs is huge: seamless access to emails and documents whether in the office, at home or on the move, could save so many of those lost hours over the Christmas period.
“That business slows down over Christmas is just accepted as a fact of life,” said Simon Howitt, sales and marketing director, Yes Telecom. “But most people who run a business don’t realise that this is on top of an enormous amount of downtime incurred in the day to day operation of a company.
“Having a system which facilitates access to emails, the internet and documents on the move not only acts as a stop gap to lost business, but employing it effectively over the Christmas period gives a business a competitive advantage over rivals who fail to address the issue.”

Notes to editors
Founded in 2001, Yes Telecom is a leading business-to-business mobile and fixed line telecommunications provider. In May 2006, Yes Telecom was acquired by Vodafone but it has retained its specialism of going to market through a network of dealers which, due to the nature of the relationship between the two, are referred to by Yes Telecom as business partners.
In 2004, Yes Telecom’s Advanced Solutions Division was established as a response to its business partners’ demands for non-voice products and services such as BlackBerry and mobile broadband. With the growing importance of email on the move and the convergence of IT and mobile phone technology, Yes Telecom’s team offers its knowledge and expertise of wireless data solutions, providing business partners with support and technical information at all stages of the relationship.
