HTT Helps Deploy Viatel’s VTL WaveNet Advanced Services Across Europe in 8 Weeks
Viatel Holding (Bermuda) Limited was able to roll out VTL WaveNet, its new European wholesale division, across 4 countries and 5 cities in just 8 weeks by using specialised engineering services from Hutchison Team Telecom (HTT).
[UKPRwire, Fri Jun 01 2007] Viatel Holding (Bermuda) Limited was able to roll out VTL WaveNet, its new European wholesale division, across 4 countries and 5 cities in just 8 weeks by using specialised engineering services from Hutchison Team Telecom (HTT).
HTT handled the installation and deployment of enhancements to Viatel’s backbone and metropolitan networks, to support the additional traffic demands of the VTL WaveNet services. The project commenced in February 2007 and finished in April.
VTL WaveNet offers high-speed services across Europe including 2.5 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s Wavelengths, Dark Fibre, Ethernet, SDH and Co-location. Aimed at carriers and high bandwidth users, the services take advantage of Viatel's wholly-owned backbone network as well as its metropolitan networks in 8 European cities.
The infrastructure enhancements use high-capacity optical DWDM technology from Huawei Technologies, supporting Wavelength and Ethernet services and giving Viatel substantial expansion capabilities of up to 1.6 Terabits on a single fibre pair. Huawei's ultra long haul transmission technology reduces the need for signal regeneration, enabling cost-efficient network construction.
Phase 1 of the Service rollout is complete with points of presence in the UK, Netherlands, Germany and France including metropolitan coverage in Paris, Amsterdam, London, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt.

Steve Best reports that HTT were recommended for the project as a contractor to Huawei, because of HTT’s experience of working with Viatel on earlier projects. HTT will also provide ongoing field maintenance and customer provisioning services across Europe for Huawei and Viatel.
Customers of VTL WaveNet will have a full range of services to meet their specific needs, including Wavelengths of 2.5 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s as well as Ethernet Services from 1 Gbit/s Ethernet up to 10 Gbit/s Ethernet. The services include fully-protected connections capable of restoration in less than 50 milliseconds as well as cost effective point-to-point services.
