Brits say ‘so what’ to credit crunch

A survey of more than 1000 customers throughout the UK by leading discount travel website, alpharooms.com, revealed that 82% of people would rather tighten their belts and scrimp and save on other household expenditures before giving up their cherished break on the beach.

[UKPRwire, Mon Sep 29 2008] Despite the ongoing gloomy economic outlook, it seems that Brits are reluctant to give up on their annual two weeks in the sun.

A survey of more than 1000 customers throughout the UK by leading discount travel website, alpharooms.com, revealed that 82% of people would rather tighten their belts and scrimp and save on other household expenditures before giving up their cherished break on the beach.

When questioned, the majority of respondents opted to forgo other luxuries and leisure pursuits including nights out, new clothes and even car servicing in order to afford their annual getaway.

Online marketing manager at alpharooms.com, Gareth Hockey commented: “Despite the continued doom and gloom, people just want to get away. Our bookings have remained consistent during the first six months of this year but there has been a definite surge over the last month. It seems Brits are saying ‘so what’ to the credit crunch, we want our holiday and are prepared to make sacrifices to pay for it.”

Unsurprisingly given the recent run of bad weather, alpharooms.com has seen a 30% increase in bookings over the last four weeks with customers heading for a raft of sunnier climes. The biggest demand has been for all-inclusive holidays in the non-Eurozone such as Turkey, Egypt and Bulgaria, which offer guaranteed sunshine, great value and little in the way of extras once there.

Established for 10 years, alpharooms.com is one of the UK’s leading websites for discounted worldwide travel offering competitive deals on hotels, apartments, flights, transfers, car hire and travel insurance. ABTA and ATOL bonded for customers’ peace of mind, alpharooms.com is the one stop shop for independent travel, package tours and last minute holiday bargains.
