Caravanning - the NEW old-fashioned holiday

Although many people look at camping and caravanning as an oldies holiday activity, modern families are finding it an increasing worthwhile way of spending their limited holiday time and budgets.

[UKPRwire, Sat Oct 11 2008] Although many people look at camping and caravanning as an oldies holiday activity, modern families are finding it an increasing worthwhile way of spending their limited holiday time and budgets.

A relatively small investment in a caravan or tent (from around £2,000 for a second-hand caravan, £10,000 new, or around £400 for a brand-new six person family tent) gives families the opportunity to find a fortnight's UK-based holiday in peak season for around £400 in a caravan, and less than £350 in a tent - compare that to the £2,000 cost of holidays abroad!

And compare the fun for families and kids when they're on their holidays!

In most continental resorts and hotels, parents need to keep a close eye on the kids, with frequently unsupervised pools and limited amusement and entertainment for children.

But on most campsites, commercial and club-based, there's a family feeling, with plenty of open space, good play facilities, and a sensible level of security. You can let the kids play without major restrictions, although many campsites do restrict ball games to special areas, to minimise damage.

Over the winter months, The Caravan Channel TV programme, broadcast on Sky 166, will be looking at caravan and camping holidays from the family viewpoint. Every one of it's 2 monthly programmes will be looking at how families can make he choices that'll improve their holidays and weekend breaks - for years to come.

The Caravan Channel TV programme is made by caravanners and campers for caravan, motorhome and camping fans, and is a continuous production show - we make 26 editions each and every year. The show has been in production for 2 years.

Each programme is shown 8 times over a two week period, after which it is replaced by the next edition. The shows appear on Information TV, broadcasting on Sky channel 166 at 7pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. There's also a supporting video website at www.caravanchannel.tv where there are stacks of videos about camping, caravanning and motorhomes.
