MOVE OVER MISTER ED AS SOME NEW HORSE-ANALATIES ARE RIDING INTO TOWN

Horse-analaties: the personality horse profiling now offered on some ranch holidays adds a more human element to the match making process.

[UKPRwire, Tue Sep 04 2007] Mister Ed, the four legged star of 1960’s TV wanted to be more than just a horse; with his familiar antics including hosting a birthday party, driving a delivery truck and even surfing the waves. However, while the star of the classic TV series can still be tracked down on the Internet, it may be time for the much loved Mister Ed to make way for some new ‘horseanalaties’ who are riding into the Wild West. Compared to Mister Ed they may be on the ‘C’ List in terms of their celebrity fame, and they won’t come with a dedicated website (www.mister-ed.com), but it’s the human characteristics of the horses which are coming into play at several of the ranches offered by Ranch Rider.

Tony Daly, Managing Director of Ranch Rider, comments: “Travellers wouldn’t choose to take the wrong sort of company on their holidays so why should deciding on your four-legged partner be any different. Safety, experience and ability are still the key factors when deciding on a suitable mount for the rider, but the personality horse profiling now offered at some ranches adds a more human element to the match making process."

At the Lonesome Spur in Montana, riders can get to know Honeybear, an eight-year-old Palomino quarter horse who is an all round babysitter, said to inspire first time riders with confidence. Gentle and empathetic his personality conjures up something similar to that of a ‘best buddy’ and it’s no secret that many riders have made an attachment to this particular horse, returning each year to catch up like old friends. The ranch owners describe him as a horse that loves attention; in fact they are sure that Honeybear would even unpack your lunch if he were able to. Ranch Rider believes that this last party trick might be more Mister Ed’s territory, but he certainly is an adorable partner that won’t be easily forgotten. The experience at the Lonesome Spur is also very ‘individualistic’ with riding geared to all levels and no nose to tail riding. A 7-night stay with Ranch Rider at the Lonesome Spur costs FROM £1,489pp departing May to October.

At the Chilcotin Ranch in British Columbia they have been developing their breed of Cariboo-Chilcotin horses over several generations. These Mountain Cayuse horses still have the wilderness coursing through their veins, but each mount comes with a distinctive personality. The ranch has devised a list of five specific character traits, from the leader of the pack – the epitome of the alpha male, to the horse described as a lover not a fighter – the latter type winning your heart with his sincerity, friendliness and eagerness to please. Other personality types include; the strong silent type, the go-getter, and the proud and aloof mount, but whatever the decision, while these horses might have to conclude that Mister Ed’s telephony skills are way out of their league they are still, most evidently, very compatible with their holiday mounts and new found friendships are being made every year. A 7-night stay with Ranch Rider at the Chilcotin Ranch costs FROM £1,418pp departing May to October. Excludes gratuities at guests’ discretion.
