New Year Revellers Book Accomodation For 2007 Celebrations Now To Avoid Disappointment

Scotland’s reputation for New Year parties is prompting hotel guests to reserve rooms up to 12 months in advance for fear of missing out.

[UKPRwire, Wed Jan 24 2007] Hogmanay revellers looking forward to celebrating the start of 2008 in Scotland are already booking their hotel accommodation to avoid disappointment.

Scotland’s growing international reputation as a destination for New Year parties is forcing hotel guests to reserve their rooms up to 12 months in advance for fear of missing out.

The Osbourne Hotel in Edinburgh and Mclays Guest House in central Glasgow are already reporting a surge in advance reservations for Hogmanay 2007 despite the fact that bad weather caused last year’s celebrations to be called off.

”We had thought that with 2003 being cancelled in Edinburgh, and then 2006 being cancelled almost everywhere it would put people off but here we are, barely out of January, and we were already taking a fair number bookings for Hogmanay 2007.,” said Shahid Chaudhry, director of The Osbourne and McLays, two of Scotland’s most popular independent budget hotels.

”All the bad weather appears not to have put people off at all, especially as most of the advance bookings so far have been for family rooms.”

McLays Guest House has 20 family rooms sleeping up to five adults while The Osbourne Hotel has 15 family rooms.

”Getting family accommodation in Glasgow or Edinburgh can be difficult at the best of times and many visitors have to take two or three rooms to cater for all their family – that can be almost impossible at peak times like summer or Hogmanay,” said Mr Chaudhry.

”We have a larger than average number of family rooms and are capable of catering for big groups which is probably one of the reasons why we are getting booked up so far in advance.”

Edinburgh, especially, has been recognised by international travel experts as one of the top 10 destinations in the world to celebrate New Year.

On line travel experts TripAdvisor, which caters for more than 20 million visitors a month to its websites in the US and UK, recently ranked the Scottish capital alongside Rio de Janeiro, Vienna, Berlin, Miami, Shanghai, Prague, Madrid, Vail in Colorado, and Bruges in Belgium as ideal destinations for a party.

”Last year (December 2006) we had a large number of Australians, New Zealanders and continentals looking to see in the New Year in Scotland,” said Mr Chaudhry.

”So far most of the bookings we have had about New Year 2007 have come from people living in England who want to make sure they don’t miss out.

”A few years ago most of the people who came to stay for New Year were Scots returning home for Hogmanay but now our reputation for throwing a good party seems to have got around and it’s mostly non-Scots that are looking for a room.
