A brand new award for young designers has been launched by Agentdraw, the product design, development and manufacturing company, in association with The Plastics Industry Awards. Shortlisted entrants will see their product ideas taken through a series of design and prototyping stages, with the winner being given the chance to see their design put into serial production.

This competition has been created to provide a platform for young British design talent to demonstrate their skill and innovation. The object is to design a useful, original, non-electronic product which must be commercial and have a mass market which can be in the retail or industrial sectors.

The competition is open to individuals up to the age of 25 years old.
Competitors can be students, employees or unemployed individuals who must have the skills to complete the product design process from concept through CAD and technical design to production-ready manufacturing data.

Competitors must work alone through the entire process and not employ any professional or non professional help. The competition brief is to design a useful, original, non-electronic product which must be no bigger than 400mm by 400mm by 400mm. The product, ideally but not exclusively, should use plastic parts.

The competition will have several stages including concept design and market research, design development, interview and pitch, prototyping and engineering for manufacture. Some entrants will be eliminated at each stage of the competition. Shortlisted entrants will be interviewed at the Plastics Design and Moulding event, taking place on 18-20 May in Telford.

Three finalists will be invited to The Plastics Industry Awards 2010, taking place at the London Hilton on 1 October. The winning design will be product marketed and if the market demand is proven, produced by Agentdraw.
