Ayrshire’s legal community got the chance to question one of the UK’s leading lawyers, as part of a nationwide conference series organised by Clydesdale Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre.

Peter Scott, the former managing partner of top London and European law firm Eversheds, was the key speaker on a national teleconference hosted by Clydesdale Bank on the subject of how legal practices need to change following the recession.

Twelve law firms from in and around Ayrshire joined Clydesdale Bank’s managing partner Willie Mackie to question Peter on how the sector needs to be able to respond to the differing needs of clients following the economic downturn.

Willie Mackie, managing partner at Clydesdale Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre on Alloway Street, Ayr, said the teleconference was a great opportunity for local law firms to quiz one of the UK’s top legal professionals.

Willie said: "Peter was able to pass on a wealth of experience and insight gained from his career at a leading international legal practice. The market in which law firms now operate is very different as the UK economy looks to grow out of recession, and many clients have very different needs. Lawyers have to adapt, as most businesses do, and Peter discussed how firms need to continue to focus on fundamental principles such as identifying client needs."

Stuart Paterson of Frazer Coogans Solicitors in Ayr commented: "Peter Scott’s interpretation of client expectations of a legal firm in the 21st century was both informative and thought provoking. The format and content of the conference was innovative, and will assist local firms as they strive to provide a top service to clients."

This legal sector teleconference was part of a nationwide series of events being hosted by Clydesdale Bank to allow corporate and business customers the chance to network and hear from of the UK’s leading economists and professionals.

Future events will focus on the economic impact of the general election, exchange rates affecting farmers, food manufacturing and charities.
