A survey of enthusiastic walkers by leading discount outdoor clothing web site, Outdoorlook.co.uk, has revealed that the most popular place for walkers to have their ashes spread is along Britainís 2400 kilometres of coastline. The survey, which looked into the hiking habits of over 500 walkers, ranked where walkers would most like their ashes spread and revealed that along the coast was number one closely followed by The Lake District and The Scottish Highlands.

Ian Brookes, managing director of Outdoorlook.co.uk said: "Walkers are like many other enthusiasts, they want to have their ashes spread in a place that means something to them. We often hear about football fans wanting to have their ashes spread on their favourite teams pitch and this is really no different. By spreading their ashes in the countryside or along the hundreds of miles of costal paths walkers get the chance to ensure their remains close to nature."

The top five preferred locations were as follows:

1. The Coast
2. The Lake District
3. The Scottish Highlands
4. The Peak district
5. The Yorkshire Dales

The outdoorlook.co.uk survey also reported that walking was very much a family pastime with over 50% of hikers walking regularly in a family group..

People who are looking to have their ashes spread in the future you ensure their family know where their favourite place is and they should always seek the permission of the landowner before going ahead.
