Competitive Landscape

Procter & Gamble continued leading sales of hair care with 23% value share in 2013. The widest product portfolio across all existing product segments ensured the company’s leading position. It was represented by Pantene (8%), Head & Shoulders (8%) and Wash & Go (2%) in shampoos, conditioners and 2-in-1s; Londa (3%) and Wella (3%) in colourants; and Wellaflex (2%) in styling agents. Beiersdorf AG with its Nivea series in different varieties (Nivea – 8%, Nivea For Men – 2%, Nivea Hair Care – 6%) was second with 17% value share. It benefited from universal brand name, recognisable by consumers in all product segments. Unilever Group held 12% to be in third position with its Dove and Sunsilk brands in shampoos. Dove is popular with its "creamy" products, whilst Sunsilk represents the mixture of good price and quality.
