Jeans is a mature category and most consumers in Taiwan usually already own a pair of jeans. Therefore, most consumers have little need to purchase an additional pair of jeans during a recession unless it is considered a necessity.

Competitive Landscape

Levi Strauss & Co led jeans sales in 2013, recording value share of 12%. Despite weak consumer confidence and stiff competition from Uniqlo and Zara, Levi's maintained its brand share through various promotions and marketing activities to strengthen its position as a desired premium brand among young consumers who were more brand-conscious and preferred brands that reflected status. In 2012, Hebe from the popular female pop band S.H.E. was named the official celebrity endorser for Levi's in Taiwan. Levi's continued to promote heavily in 2013.
