Creative writing competition at Yourlocallondon.com
Anyone with a flair for writing and lives in London is invited to enter a creative writing competition hosted by community website www.yourlocallondon.com/takepart , with categories for different age groups and celebrity judges for each.
[UKPRwire, Wed Nov 05 2008] www.yourlocallondon.com caters for all ages covering a number of areas across London – see the foot of this press release for the complete list of locations – and aims to bring local people together in each area to share information, tips, give advice, support the smaller, independent businesses and learn about all things local.
The writing competition is open to all schools across London and covers four age groups, with a different requirement for each one:
Children aged 7 to 11 are invited to write anything up to500 words on the subject of ‘My London’. All entries will be judged by Sandra Howard, wife of politician Michael Howard and author of three acclaimed novels to her name, the latest of which – A Matter of Loyalty – is published next year.
Entries in the 12 to 15 year old group are to write anything up to 1,500 words and will be judged by BBC presenter Louise Minchin, best known for presenting the One O’clock news as well as documentaries.
Those aged between 16 to 18 are asked to write anything up to 3,000 words. This age group will be judged by the multi award winning author Frances Fyfield. Her novels include the 2008 release ‘Blood from Stone’, as well as earlier releases ‘The Art of Drowning’ and ‘Safer than Houses’.
The final category is for those aged 19 years and over, and each entry can be anything up to 5,000 words. It will be judged by TV presenter and author Clarissa Dixon-Wright, formerly one half of the ‘Two Fat Ladies’ TV cookery team.
The title – ‘My London’ – is intended as a guideline, and the entries can be fictional stories, scripts, poetry or otherwise, and the emphasis is on creativity.
Prizes for the competition are as follows: for the first three categories, the winner will receive £25 in book tokens plus £250 of the same for their school, plus a unique certificate signed by the celebrity judge. The winner of the 19 and over category will receive a £250 cash prize. All winners will see their work published on www.yourlocallondon.com, in addition to the above.
