Rob Whiteman, the Improvement and Development Agency’s (IDeA) new Managing Director, will take to the stage at the Public Sector Learning Conference being hosted by e-learning specialist Learning Pool on 12 May in London.

Taking up his IDeA appointment after the local elections in May of this year, Rob’s keynote speech at the Learning Pool conference will be his first public engagement in his new post.

Rob is the current Chief Executive of London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, a position he has held since January 2005. He has been involved with public service reform and modernisation on a wide range of areas such as leadership, partnership working across local and central government, and building community cohesion.

This managerial leadership with a clear focus on improving services topped the feedback on the Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s 2009 Comprehensive Performance Assessment. The report identified that Council has the capacity it needs to deliver its ambitions with officer and councillor relationships working well.
Learning Pool’s Mary McKenna, said "We are delighted that Rob will be kicking off this year’s Public Sector Learning Conference. In 2008 he was named one of the 10 most influential people in local government by Local Government Chronicle and I hear he’s also a mean operatic singer so I’m sure he’ll be a real hit with our audience.
"We’re working hard to ensure our conference is unmissable for anyone involved in the public sector learning and development.

"I’m sure there will be a lot of people who want to hear Rob’s vision for the IDeA and how councils can make big efficiency savings while still developing the capacity of their staff. "
Other speakers at the Public Sector Learning conference will include international learning guru Elliott Masie, Towards Maturity’s Clive Shepherd, Councillor Tim Cheetham and founder of the online coaching and mentoring network, www.horsesmouth.co.uk, MT Rainey.
In an innovative move, a special pre-conference online community has been set up at www.lpconf.ning.com for full access to the day’s activities, agenda and speakers and pre conference discussions by delegates.
