Year 6 pupils celebrate Children’s Book Week with award-winning author Alan Durant


Year 6 pupils at Claygate Primary School celebrated Children’s Book Week (6th-12th October 2008) in style when award-winning author Alan Durant hosted a rhythm and rhyme workshop, sponsored by Surbiton-based education specialists Livewire Public Relations, on 30th September 2008.


[UKPRwire, Wed Oct 01 2008] Year 6 pupils at Claygate Primary School celebrated Children’s Book Week (6th-12th October 2008) in style when award-winning author Alan Durant hosted a rhythm and rhyme workshop, sponsored by Surbiton-based education specialists Livewire Public Relations, on 30th September 2008. Alan conducted a workshop with 43 Year 6 pupils, shared his reading and writing tips then set and judged a poetry competition.

Alan has written over seventy books for children, from picture books to teenage novels, including Burger Boy for which he won the Portsmouth Children’s Picture Book Award 2007 and his work was featured in the BBC series English Express, which won a Children’s Bafta Award. His book Dear Tooth Fairy was shortlisted for the Red House Children’s Book Award and he has twice won the Kingston Borough/Waterstone’s Poetry Prize.

Richenda Wood, Managing Director of Livewire PR, awarded the winning poet, Hannah Haffejee, with a £50 book voucher at the end of the session and says: “It is crucial that children develop good literacy skills from a young age to set them up for life. We were delighted to support Claygate Primary School in what was such an enjoyable workshop, encouraging healthy competition in reading and writing.”
