Nargile Edinburgh, the Capital’s premier contemporary Turkish restaurant, has reopened at 73 Hanover Street in the heart of the New Town with a return to the ownership of its original family following an extensive refurbishment.
Now run by Ruya Iridag (daughter of Yusuf and Karen Iridag, founders of the first Nargile restaurant in Aberdeen in 1983) and her partner, chef Stuart Anderson, Nargile Edinburgh takes its name from the traditional Turkish water pipe (also known as Hookah or Shisha).
With a menu reflecting Turkey’s geographic location with Bosphorus bridge connecting Asia with Europe to offer a modern menu featuring both Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean influences, Nargile Edinburgh’s speciality is its range of unique contemporary meze dishes, offering diners a selection of fresh fish, seafood, vegetarian and meat dishes.
Ms Iridag said, "Meze is a way of life in Turkey and the Mediterranean where eating is all about hospitality and celebration. It offers a great way for diners to sample a range of regional Turkish cuisine and share freshly prepared dishes amongst themselves.
"Our menu comprises several contemporary twists on traditional family recipes, using both local and authentically sourced ingredients, all freshly prepared on the premises. And the nature of meze means that we can cater for any customers with special dietary requirements, from vegetarians, vegans, celiac sufferers and anyone with particular food allergies as it can be modified easily to suit their tastes."
The 46 cover Nargile Edinburgh’s fresh, contemporary cuisine is now complemented by fresh, contemporary décor following considerable investment in an extensive refurbishment programme encompassing everything from brand new tables, chairs, crockery and artwork by renowned artist Tom Merrifield to more closely reflect the quality of food on offer.
