Hospice Chief Executive urges people to get on their bike
A sponsored cycle ride is to take place along the Thames Cycle Path on October 4, 2009 to raise money for Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice in Abbey Wood, South London.
[UKPRwire, Wed Sep 16 2009] A sponsored cycle ride is to take place in October in aid of Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice in Abbey Wood, South London. The cycle, which attracted 750 riders last year, is hoping for an even bigger turnout for this year’s event.
The event takes place on Sunday October 4 2009 and riders have the choice of 3 start points and 6 routes along the Thames Cycle Path, and they can choose from either a 12 or 24 mile run.
The 3 start and finish points are the Morrisons store in Erith, Cutty Sark Gardens in Greenwich and Woolwich Arsenal.
Jim Bennett, Chief Executive at the Hospice, will cycle the 24-mile route starting at Erith in preparation for his 500 kilometre sponsored cycle across Vietnam and Cambodia raising money for Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice.
He said: “We are hoping to attract at least 1,200 cyclists to our sponsored cycle this year. Our annual cycle is a safe, fun and healthy way to raise funds for your local Hospice but this one’s rather special, as it marks the Hospice’s 15th Anniversary. It’s also a good opportunity for me to put in some practice miles in preparation for my Vietnam and Cambodia bike challenge on October 24!”
A mobile workshop will be on hand to help out cyclists with mechanical problems and carry out a safety check beforehand.
All children taking part must wear a cycle helmet.
The event starts at 10am.
Registration costs £10, 16 & over or £5 for 5 -15-year-olds.
For details of the event and to register, go to www.cottagehospice.org.uk/cycle, email email@example.com or call 020 8319 9230. Alternatively, pick up a registration form from one of the 14 Hospice shops, the details of which can be found on the Hospice website http://www.cottagehospice.org.uk/income_shops.htm
All money raised from this event will go to help Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice continue to provide their specialist care to Greenwich and Bexley residents who are suffering with a life limiting illness.
