COMPUTERLINKS leads next generation of IT distribution with re-engineered business model

Published: Tue May 04 2010

COMPUTERLINKS, a leading global distributor of IT security and Internet technology solutions, today announced it has re-engineered its business model to reflect the changing technology and channel landscape. In response to customer needs to deliver margin-rich services around new and emerging technologies such as virtualisation, cloud computing and IP-based physical security, the company has re-focused its UK organisation.

David Ellis, formerly director of e-security, professional services and training will lead COMPUTERLINKS’ New Technology and Services Division while David Caughtry, formerly director of e-business, will head up the company’s Core Technology Division.

The announcement follows the launch earlier this year by the distributor, of a new suite of virtualisation services designed to provide its partners with not only new skills, but also higher margins when recommending virtualisation solutions across vendors such as Citrix, Microsoft, The Virtual Machine Company and VMware.

Mark Norman, managing director of COMPUTERLINKS UK & Ireland and chief operating officer of COMPUTERLINKS AG, commented: "The channel is under increasing pressure to find new ways to improve profitability, and distributors are no exception. By developing intellectual property that our partners can draw on, we are creating new, low-risk revenue opportunities without the need for them to invest in costly infrastructure."

The new management structure has also been put in place to enable the company’s Newmarket-based staff to develop and deliver both new and established technologies. It is actively encouraging individuals at all levels to take a role in the development of the business by recognising and rewarding initiative and entrepreneurship. The structure is initially being implemented in the UK, and will be rolled out on a global basis as local markets mature.

David Ellis, director of new technology and services, added: "We’re investing in new technologies such as virtualisation and cloud using our heritage in networking and TCP/IP and our core strength within IT security. It’s a natural evolution for us and one we believe will be welcomed by our customers who look to us to help them deliver solutions not only in new technologies, but also in expanding geographical areas."
