Carlo Gavazzi UK Ltd is using the Home Technology Event in London’s Excel, 15-17th June 2010 to preview a Web server application enabling smart-house home automation systems to be managed, monitored and controlled anywhere in the world.
Running under Windows CE operating system the web server software will be integrated into the BH8-CTRLX-230 smart-house controller. This allows any browser on the home ethernet network to log securely into the controller and access the smart-house system. All home automation variables can be viewed or adjusted (actual temperature, temperature set points, real time values) as well as the control of individual lighting, scene setting and curtain control.
The smart-house web server is especially valuable when accessed from outside the house, via a home network gateway such as an ADSL or cable router. Formatted for standard browsers or mobile devices, the smart-house web application allows users, for example, to check that security systems are activated whilst they are away from the premises, and investigate smart-house alarms.
Access to the systems is available by entering a password into an internet browser, which is then encrypted before being sent to the server for validation. If a user attempts to access the system with a wrong password or in some other way, the server sends an email to a user defined email address, warning home-owners that someone is trying to access the system illegally.
The web server’s built-in security features are compatible with existing security in the home gateway, such as firewalls, to provide greater protection against unauthorised access and intrusion.
Price and availability
Web server software for the smart-house controller will be provided as a free-of-charge upgrade and is scheduled to be released at the end of July 2010.
Smart-house system
The Carlo Gavazzi smart-house home automation system provides a cost effective solution for automating any home, now and for the future. Wiring is simple because the same two-wire bus that communicates between components also supplies them power. Popular features include lighting control where you can set scenes, activate lights by motion or light intensity. Blinds and curtains can open and close automatically at the end of each day and can be included in lighting scenarios, whilst heating can be controlled in individual rooms to save energy.
Dedicated detectors for smoke and intruders can be configured to make the house lights flash, sound an alarm and send a text message, water detectors can protect against flooding by shutting off the water supply to the house.
Automation can also be extended to the garden for path lighting, gate control, irrigation systems and swimming pool management. All aspects of the system can be controlled and viewed locally on wall mounted touch screens and high-end remote controls (Philips Pronto) or remotely by internet or mobile phone.
