DirectRooms.com – Celebrate Manchester Spring Market held on 5 June 2011

Published: Thu Apr 07 2011

The market is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and covers a large area around St Anne’s Square, Exchange Square and New Cathedral Street.

It is the perfect setting for a festival of food and decorative home ware, with steel bands, Morris dancers and a taste of opera to provide a musical background to the shopping.

St Anne’s Square will be the site for stylish home accessories such as handmade textiles and fine art photography, but flower lovers will be drawn to Exchange Street where a carpet of flowers will greet them, courtesy of Dirk ‘The Dutch Flower Man’ who will be selling plants, flowers and hanging baskets. There will be a beer garden here as well to provide some much needed liquid refreshment.

New Cathedral Street will, as usual, be bursting with food stalls offering everything from ostrich meat to cupcakes, and a new ‘foodie’ area in King Street will be recreating an English garden fete atmosphere with traditional fare such as home made British pickles, cheeses and wines. Afternoon tea, old fashioned fizzy pop and that greatest of English summer drinks - Pimms – will also be served.

Central Manchester hotels will be available for anyone wanting to experience this traditional market and stay overnight to sample all that the city has to offer.
