Trivial pursuits question answered with “I do” at East Lodge

Published: Fri Feb 12 2010

It was during a game of trivial pursuits that Jane Needham was asked the question she had been waiting for. Already having Jane’s fathers’ seal of approval, partner of 11 years Russell Preece popped the question to a delighted Jane. Followed by an official engagement in Nottingham Town Hall Square, the same spot Russell’s father had proposed to his mum, the couple decided to have a long engagement giving Jane plenty of time to plan her dream day.

The perfect venue was sought to provide the ideal romantic setting for Jane and Russell’s big day. After viewing over 20 venues Jane and Russell, from Hasland, Chesterfield felt they all had something missing. The last venue they visited was East Lodge in Rowsley and they were thrilled when all their requirements were not only met but exceeded. "We fell in love with East Lodge when we first saw it," Jane explained: "None of the other venues we looked at came close. Not only was it the perfect setting but we had it exclusively to ourselves which made it all the more personal and special. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and we knew straight away that our big day would be safe in their hands."

Jane worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail of the wedding was planned. With spreadsheets and files, nothing was left to chance and the staff at East Lodge were there every step of the way.

"We had a champagne and chocolate theme with mango and gold that ran seamlessly throughout the wedding. Even the tables were named after chocolate bars and hand decorated chocolate bars were used as name places to complement the colour scheme," Jane continued. "The table settings in the room added to the magical touch of the whole thing with the colour scheme carried through in the flower arrangements as well. The tables had Square Mirrored Vases filled with two complimentary flower designs and on the top table we had 2ft Orange and cream roses, cream calla lilys, gyp, feathers and foliage. "

"Every little detail was just perfect and East Lodge went out of their way to make sure it was so special. The staff were just fantastic, putting up with all my questions in the run up to the wedding, letting the florist visit to get a feel of the venue and the chef even made me a bowl of potato wedges especially how I’d asked for them. Nothing was too much trouble."
Following their wedding ceremony in East Lodges’ beautiful Wye room, Jane and Russell took a horse and carriage ride taking in the stunning grounds and using them as the backdrop for their photographs.

The couple opted for one of East Lodge’s ‘Exclusively Yours’ wedding packages, which made gave them sole use of the venue from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning. "Having East Lodge to ourselves for the weekend was wonderful and made the wedding last the whole weekend. We got to spend time with the families and bridesmaids and it made the whole experience a more personal affair," said Jane.

"The Hardman family who own East Lodge seemed so involved too. They even sourced us a barrel of real ale that we knew some of our guests liked and let us print our own money with our pictures on, for the guests use as drinks vouchers during the reception." Jane explained: "It was lovely that they were around on Sunday morning to be able to thank in person and it is always a pleasure to see them and the staff who made our wedding so special as we visit East Lodge for other occasions."

"It was a truly magical, romantic day that we will treasure for the rest of our life’s We will certainly be returning on numerous occasions to East Lodge to celebrate our anniversaries, as this is a memorable place that is in our hearts forever," concluded Jane.

East Lodge is owned by the Hardman family and has picked up a number of important accolades in recent years; East Lodge has again achieved the coveted AA "Inspectors’ Choice" accolade with three red stars for 2009/10, placing it within the top 150 hotels in the UK.
